10:00am - 10:30am: Arrival and Networking
10:30am - 10:45am: Reshaping the Retrofit Narrative to Make Projects Happen
For retrofit to happen at scale, it needs to capture hearts as well as minds. This quarter’s event focuses on how organisations have reshaped the story to deliver retrofit in action. Our host, Jenny Danson, will open the day, welcome members, and set the scene for this quarter’s sessions.
Speaker: Jenny Danson, CEO, Healthy Homes Hub
10:45am - 11:35am: EPC C by 2030 - What Strategies are Housing Providers Taking?
Six months on from the guidance on updated Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) and the new Home Energy Model (HEM), housing providers are taking very different approaches. Some are focusing on meeting the minimum requirements by 2030, while others are adopting a broader strategy that considers harder-to-treat homes and future standards. There are practical constraints for large organisations like assessor availability too.
This interactive session will bring members together to share how they are responding. Are organisations simply targeting compliance, or using this as an opportunity to rethink their longer-term investment strategy? How are boards reacting? What assumptions are being made about EPC assessments, assessor capacity, and cost caps? And how is this work affecting other priorities?
Speaker: Paul Norman, Director or Energising Assets Director, Healthy Homes Hub
11:35am - 11:45am: Break
11:45am - 12:45pm: Unlocking Energy Freedom for Landlords and Residents
By 2030, the UK could have a cleaner, cheaper, and smarter energy system - one that makes positive action easy and accessible for everyone. Solar panels, batteries, and virtual power plant models will play a central role in this transformation, automating the monetisation of grid flexibility services for residents. In this session, we’ll hear from Andrew on how these technologies can de-risk projects, unlock new revenue streams, and deliver long-term energy independence.
Speaker: Prof Andrew Crossland, Senior Operability Lead, National Energy Systems Operator
12:45pm - 1:30pm: Lunch
1:30pm - 2:30pm: Keeping Cool in Summer and Warm in Winter
In 2022, England recorded over 2,950 heat-related deaths - the highest on record - while 2024 saw four official heatwaves. Overheating is now the “new norm”, creating a major challenge for housing providers: how to ensure homes are warm in winter, cool in summer, and affordable year-round. In this presentation, we will examine the technologies, financing approaches, and resident engagement strategies that can deliver climate-ready, comfortable homes.
Speaker: Dr Stephen Watson, Lecturer in Building Energy, Loughborough University
2:30pm - 2:40pm: Break
2:40pm - 3:30pm: Retrofit Design Details - what’s available now and what’s next
Many Retrofit Society 2.0 members have highlighted the need for a shared, open-source catalogue of retrofit design details that can be used across common housing archetypes. In this session, Emily Braham will explore the design details, tools, and resources currently available, discuss their strengths and limitations, and share what is being developed to make high-quality retrofit design more accessible and easier to scale.
Speakers: Emily Braham, Strategy and Operations Director, Energiesprong UK; Alex Whitcroft, Director, Kin
3:30pm - 4:00pm: Turning Ambition into Action
Ambitious retrofits are vital to delivering the meaningful environmental, social, and financial outcomes residents and landlords need to thrive. Led by Jenny Danson, this session will explore how to use the learnings from Oxfordshire County Council’s project and Thames Freeports’ project to gain buy-in for your own initiatives.
Speaker: Jenny Danson, CEO, Healthy Homes Hub
4:00pm - 6:00pm: Drinks and nibbles
Attendance is FREE as part of Healthy Homes Hub membership.
