Retrofit Society 2.0 has been created to identify private finance solutions for large-scale social housing retrofit programmes
Society members manage 1.3 million social homes, equivalent to 25% of the market
Metis will provide expertise and input as they support the full value chain, from consumer engagement to smart technology and funding
Metis, who are part of SMS, on a mission to fund carbon reducing assets in homes and businesses and whose goal is to make the Energy Transition simple, fair and affordable, are the latest members of the Healthy Homes Hub.
They have joined the Hub, who have a simple mission to make every home a healthy home, to help launch Retrofit Society 2.0. Alongside fellow sponsors Energiesprong UK, the Green Finance Institute, and Risehem Energy, the society will bring together the country’s most ambitious social housing landlords to explore how to access and structure private finance that supports large-scale retrofit programmes.
The society will meet on a quarterly basis and is dedicated to collaboratively bridging the gaps between practical delivery and finance. Sessions will focus on exploring scalable finance models, demystifying project risks, and sharing practical solutions that have been employed to accelerate large-scale retrofit in the sector. The society’s first session will happen on October 8th at the new PfP Thrive Academy in Derby. The aim of the society is to deliver healthier, more sustainable, and more affordable homes for residents in a way that also works financially for landlords.
Commenting on their membership of the Healthy Homes Hub and their support of Retrofit Society 2.0, Tom Woolley, Smart Product and Strategy Director at Metis said:
“Retrofit of low carbon tech, such as PV and Battery is well proven now, the time for innovation and trials is behind us, now it is time for scale. Our approach is to keep it simple, control the value chain and deliver at scale. The tech is ready, we’ve proven our consumer engagement methods drive the required uptake and we are ready to deploy our capital to this sector. We are pleased to be supporting this new society which brings together ambitious housing providers into an environment where knowledge and learnings can be shared to ensure the sector delivers on better healthier homes for residents. Our hope is that this nature of collaboration drives action and addresses our biggest challenge, time.”
Jenny Danson, Chief Executive of the Healthy Homes Hub added:
“We have talked a lot about “how to do” retrofit in the sector. This society is different. It focuses on the innovation and action we need in funding and business models to truly deliver at scale. We welcome Metis to the Hub and value the expertise they will bring to the debate.”
